The Canticle of Zachariah. Catholics who say the Office of Hours (daily prayer of the church) say this as part of their morning prayer. This is a nice translation. It is what Zachariah proclaims after being struck mute for all of Sarah's pregnancy for his lack of faith. Once he writes that the baby will be named John, he gains his voice back and this is what he says...

ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to how they know the spots where Jesus and John were born - blood stains? :p It seems strange to think someone would have venerated the spot right from the beginning...
