The Grotto of Baby Jesus

This is the manger area.  

This is where Jesus was born, across from the manger.  This area was below the Inn and was the barn area for animals.  This is how they chose to preserve the place.  To venerate this spot, you lay on your stomach and kiss the spot where Jesus was born, the center of the star.
